Langston has a new Name!

I taught Langston his middle name. This week it finally registered with Langston. He now likes to be called "Langston Logan". The sales lady at the store was talking to him, while Daddy and I discussed somethings. Later, when I went to talk to the lady and give my information, she said I bet I know your last name. She said, "Logan" and I shook my head No. She said, "Oh, your son said his name is Langston Logan." I laughed and replied that is his middle name, he just learned it this week. Also, while getting in trouble with Daddy, he told him, "I am Langston Logan and not Langston.". We have our hands full. Lol

Remember a few posts back when i said everything outside was done!? Well that was true until the cabinet delivery guy decides to back up ALL the way into the house. Joe, the foreman, was so PO'd at the delivery truck driver!! Mommy was probably even more so. Fortunately, this is just an cantilevered peice that isn't structural. Therefore it wont affect the finish date... WHEW! So the framers will be back one last time to fix this and the cabinet guys can do work INSIDE!!!

Went by the house this weekend, and while we were inside looking around the kids yelled FIRETRUCK!! We looked out of the front windows and saw a fire truck parked in front of our neighbors house. We immediately ran outside and looked up in the sky for dark smoke, but there was nothing. We looked for a long ladder, thinking maybe there was some type of rescue happening, but there was nothing. Our neighbor Tim came outside as we were just starting to really wonder!?

Tim said the firemen come out periodically to check and inspect the hydrants. That was a relief, everything was okay! Other neighbors were starting to come outside with their kids to see what was going on as well. We got to meet a bunch of the neighbors, as well as the firemen. The kids were super excited!! The firemen invited them inside the truck, talked to them about fire safety, and let them hold some of the tools. It was a great afternoon and it really felt like a neighborhood. We are so excited to be here and cant wait to move-in finally!!

Proud Father of a New Home

Daddy was at the house after the drywall and mudding was complete. This is the time when the home really starts to look like a home. The finish date is right around the corner and its amazing how much progress has been made in such a short time. Daddy couldn't help but smile at his new baby. He will cherish this gift from God and enjoy his family. This house on Hassman will soon be a home, that will grow our family for years to come. Memories of happiness are in abundance and waiting to be received.

The siding is going up on the outside walls. We chose a light tan color to match the light red bricks. The original brick we chose was already in the neighborhood, so we had to go with option #2, from our top 3. This made the siding color selection change a bit, but the final product looks amazing. This place will be awesome. We both think it will be the best looking house on the block, but we are biased of course! The clock is ticking and this will be the last outdoor activities for the house!!! Let's get inside and get to the finishes... I love to say that word finishes... that means its almost FINISHED!!

Someone is very excited about haveing their own room. Her room has a walk-in closet and these beautiful windows that look out over the front of the house. Mommy and Daddy thought this would be the perfect place for Saraia. She can look out over the neighborhood and be able to see who is outside having fun!! Saraia has already said that she can't wait to get her own room and not clean up after Langston. Daddy thinks she won't be able to handle it without Langston by her side.... be careful what you wish for!!

Daddy was in ATL again, hanging out with his college friends and roommates at the Atlanta Football Classic. After 9 long years of watching TSU loose in the final seconds, we finally beat the Rattlers. From the opening whistle TSU took control and never let up. It was so funny watching the FAMU fans leave early knowing that the game was over before it even started. The only downer was that the game was such a blowout that it wasn't as crunk and exciting as it usually is. Daddy has said this is his last trip for the past two years, maybe he will finally retire!? We'll see next year.

While Daddy was away on his boys trip... Mommy, the kids, and our friend Ebony went out to the zoo for a leisurely afternoon. Perfect weather and active animals made for a great time by all. One of the exhibits gives you a chance to get up close and personal with some feathered friends. You a first hand opportunity to feed these beautiful birds. Langston and Saraia really enjoyed being so close to the animals.

Just Like Daddy

Langston has been getting up earlier and earlier the past few days. since he's been up, he has been paying extra special attention to Daddy in the morning. It so cool watching him learn to be a man. Langston is now always trying to get into the lower cabinet and get all the adult bath products. For some reason, he thinks he's an adult and can use them. He finally got an opportunity at dinner, when we all sat down for desert. Not paying close attention to Langston, Mommy and Daddy were shocked when we saw those big cheeks and sneaky smile.

Langston was thinking that the shaving cream Daddy uses was the whipped cream on the strawberry shortcake!? He was smearing it all over his face, like he was lathering up for a shave!! This kid thinks he is ready to be a grown up!! Anyway after a good laugh and a hot towel, Langston still has his soft baby smooth face!

The home is moving forward and it's looking good! We keep a watchful eye on everything, because mistakes can and do happen... just make sure they are corrected. It's amazing the difference a week makes. The one bright side of the lack of rain we've had in Cincinnati! We are so blessed to have this grand home, surrounded by great neighbors, and a beautiful forest backdrop. We cannot wait to get the keys and move in!!!

Daddy was out traveling for work and finally got a chance to get over the house and see the progress. It is so exciting to see the house start to take shape. Daddy hasn't been able to sleep good, constantly worrying about the house. Finally all the worry and second-guessing is coming to a close, because there ain't no turning back now!! Daddy looked over every stud in that entire house. I think the foreman has noticed his attention to detail and is hopefully stepping up his own attention to detail. The home seems to be in fine hands and Mommy and Daddy have both met and talked to all the sub-contractors. Good relationships will help ease our mind over the process. The start has commenced and the focus is shifted to the FINISH. 4712 Here we Come!!

Mommy decided to have story time in the box house Saraia made for her baby doll. We headed in ther with the book, a flashlight, and baby (of course). Langston was in charge of flashlight ( we had to have a talk), and Saraia turned the pages. Well, in the middle of the story the roof caved in.n Luckily we had the builder (Saraia) to fix it. We finished our story and made it out alive. Mommy thinks she left the good side of hert back in there.

The weather here is so much calmer in the summer than in Tennessee. One of our new favorite things is to relax in the park on a Sunday afternoon. After enjoying an after church snack/lunch of sushi and coca-cola (Langston's favorite). We all sat, talked, and enjoyed the 70-ish degree weather. This park is awesome. The entrance of park is on a large hill, where a fantastic stone courtyard resides that looks out over the entire park. It feels as if we are a royal family in our castle overlooking our kingdom. This town has more parks than a nightclub valet and we love to enjoy them before old man winter comes!

As you can see Langston didn't last very long. The cool breeze and early morning service made way to an early nap, dispite all the fun that was around! We'll have to go back again, when he is fully rested, if we can ever find it again?! LOL.

Saraia was so excited about school until she got there. The thought of all the new kids and the new school and the new city just got the best of her. As soon as we got out of the car, she had a look like she saw a ghost. It was sad, but funny at the same time. The child that has managed to be the life of the party at every school she has attended, always wants to be the center of attention, never fails to volunteer, and knows no strangers has finally got a taste of shyness. She went in and didn't say anything.

When Mommy and Daddy were leaving, she looked at us like we left her in a haunted house. All went well and she seems to be making friends! We are all hoping for a great school year!!

Daddy will be away from his babies for about 30 days. So to keeo his mind away from being so sad, he has set a new goal to focus on. The plan is to workout everyday for 30 days. Hopefully, Daddy will be on his way to being better than before he left the family. With the help of this application on his Blackberry he can track his progress and get better each day. Saraia just nailed the interview and is now a new member of College Hill Elementary. Saraia answered all the questions clearly and even showed some her skills (counting by 5s, counting by 10s, rhyming, etc).

It's a public school in Cincinnati that's doing it the right way. This school is being studied to understand how they are doing it. They've been rewarded by the city with a new state of the art schoolhouse, which is not even 5 minutes from the new house site. Saraia is in and the principle is happy to have us as part of the family.

Langston Plays in the Rain

Langston loves to look at the rain, so Mommy thought it would be great for him to see it from the garage. He loved it and he slowly tip toed out into the rain. He found the gutter with the water running out and played for a minute. It was the first time in a while that it rained with no thunder. Mommy couldn't resist letting him enjoy the beauty of rain.

Ice Cream Break

We are trying to spend some time outside before the heat spikes up. We only spent 10 minutes out before the kids needed an ice cream break in the garage.

We've been in the house all week with the rain and it being too hot. Mommy decided to take us to Fun Zone.

Birds come for breakfast

Daddy and Saraia painted and put together a great birdhouse, but the birds would not enter. So they decided to buy a bird feeder. Saraia has been waiting for the birds to come and enjoy a email. Today is her lucky day, because two enjoyed a little breakfast. I am just glad we didn't miss it.

Langston rethinks fallout on Mommy

Saraia, Langston, and Mommy went to Target. Langston decides that he doesn't want to walk. Mommy and Daddy has been working on getting him to walk more. He decides that he doesn't want to walk and sits on the hot pavement. As soon as he sits down, he jumps back up and says, "hot mommy, hot mommy.". Problem solved and hold my hand and walks in the store.

Once again the Sharks had a great game! More about that below but 1st a housekeeping matter.

You may have noticed that we rotated player's positions last night. Since we have a 15 player roster and there are twice as many outfield positions in Coach Pitch as infield, and with a 10 game season, we're basically rotating from deep outfield to shallow outfield to infield. This way everyone gets a chance to play infield and outfield but spends enough time at a position to get the hang of it.

Which they are! Excellent infield play from Antonio, Ella, Karl, Christian, and Jack! Great play guys (and Ella - fantastic stop b/t 1st and 2nd, that ball was hit hard enough to be a triple or a homerun - smokin - and she held the runner at 1st! Awesome play Ella!)

We also continue to be a team of hitters and base runners! Never ending flow of base hits last night - Christian, Antonio, Saraia (who knew such a little girl could hit so hard, when she T's it up watch out!), Ben, Karl, Jack and Ella. Big hits are fun to watch but its solid base hitting & running that really wins your games. Excellent!

Speaking of big hits, we have those too. If I remember correctly - Doubles from Joey, Jackson & Braden - a Triple from Charlie - and another Homerun from Jed. Great hitting guys!

We look forward to having Isaac, Sarah and Eli back next week! Jed will be out (swimming lessons) next week and perhaps 1 or 2 others out as well so our bench depth is a good thing.

New Cam

After our previous camera broke on us during Saraia's Kindergarten garduation, the search was on to find a replacement. Of course Daddy must take his time to research and find the absolute best deals. This process seemed like forever, especially since Daddy lost 6 ebay auctions trying to get the camera at the 'right' price. But patience and persistence paid off finally as an auction came out the blue with a 'buy it now' at the right price. The camera is on its way and we cannot wait to get started using it!!

Tornado Drill

Retreat to the bathroom with flashlights and plenty of unnecessary wory, fear, and uncertainty. Another tornado watch/warning for Jackson, TN. This one was especially flase, because the alarms rang for at least 4 hours and there wasn't a cloud in the sky in our area.

New Man

Langston is trying to be a big boy. Potty training is going good, so much so that mommy and daddy put him in real underwear on the weekends. Here he is sporting 'Finding Nemo' and bird chest. To acknowledge this occasion, daddy gave Langston a quick haircut. He looks like such a little man. Operation underwear is still on track for the end of the summer!

The family has decided to invest in several board games and have a family game night. This being the first night, one would expect it to be fun-filled evening learning the game and enjoying each others company. Although it started this way, Daddy and Saraia quickly put on their competition hats. It was evident that winning was on each of their little minds. Ultimately fun did prevail as Saraia was crowned champion and Daddy stared at the board with a face that could only say 'I lost to a 5 year old!' Game night looks like a new tradition!!

Saraia and her classmates had a great time at the Children’s Museum of Memphis. What a difference this place was since daddy was there a long, long, long time ago. Saraia probably had more fun than education, but after all having fun is still the best way to learn, so I guess its okay!? It was a whirl wind of blue shirts and smiling faces for about 2 hours straight. a quick snack at Chik-fil-A and once over to make sure Saraia and mommy didnt miss anything and it was time to go. Saraia was all tuckered out and went to sleep before mommy could get on the interstate. CMOM the McGhee’s are sure to be back... awesome job!!

Wedding Crashers

It was a great occasion to see Chucky get hitched to his lovely bride. All the family traveled back to Gary, IN to celebrate with him. That statement is so weird, considering several years ago, no one would have traveled for this wedding, because the entire family was still in Gary. Distance is tough, but it definitely makes the family grow stronger and closer, because we all cherish these moments and take full advantage of the time together! Daddy was up to his usual tricks along with the entire gang (Mont, Rashad, Malcolm, and Jamar). Notice the proximity of this picture to bar!!

Saraia and Langston really took over the dance floor. They whirled and dipped all night long. Saraia even got Daddy to get up and twirl her around like the little Princess she is.

Its easy to see how much fun these two had!! They didn’t even make out of the parking lot. Best Wishes to Chucky, the wedding was great!!
